In June 2005, the students leaving Parkland Middle School for the summer, the classes of 2009, '10, and '11, were to be the last students attending Parkland as it has been since its construction in 1962. Beginning in December 2005, the old school will be mostly razed and a new school built in its place. In September 2007, the Parkland Magnet Middle School for Aerospace Technology will open its doors to the classes of 2012, '13, and '14.

Before deconstruction began, I wanted to take a few pictures of the old building that spent most of its years known as Parkland Junior High. Besides being my junior high school, I have also lived next to this building for most of my life. The changes that are coming are exciting, but also a little sad.

For those who wish to see a few parting shots of Parkland Junior High (or Middle) School then and now, and perhaps share a thought or two, I've created this site.

Thanks for stopping by.

UPDATE: Demolition continues (see "The building today" below). With the help of another alumnus, I've added a few more pictures, including some interior shots.
